The August Flow - Mechi Newsletter

Hi Mechi Community,

August always feels like a transition month. Summer is winding down, kids are heading back to school, schedules are starting to fill up again, and somehow we're already looking toward fall.

It also happens to be a month full of milestones for us. Our little one turned one, after slowly getting back into running after pregnancy, I finally got to 4 miles, and Mechi received the Rising Star Award at the Legacy Builders Summit, a pretty exciting milestone for our small team.

Three completely different milestones, but they've had me thinking about how we measure progress and how quickly we tend to move on to whatever comes next.

There's Something Powerful About Seeing Progress

There's a reason small wins feel good. Research on motivation has found that seeing progress, even small progress, can help reinforce our motivation to keep going.

I felt this getting back into running. Getting to 4 miles was the milestone, but most of the progress happened long before I reached that distance. It was the first run after pregnancy, adding a little more distance each time, and slowly starting to feel stronger again.

We tend to celebrate the finish line, but progress actually happens in all those ordinary moments leading up to it. Maybe that's worth paying a little more attention to.

And as we head into a new season, it feels like a natural time to think about what comes next. Fall has always felt like a season of change. The trees shed their leaves, kids head back to school, and our schedules and routines start to shift. Starting fresh seems to be a common theme this time of year.

As adults, we don't really get a "first day of school" anymore, but maybe we should borrow a little of that energy. Use it as an opportunity to start something new, set a new milestone, or revisit one that didn't quite happen the first time around.

Or maybe your fresh start looks like giving yourself a break, resetting your expectations, or deciding that an old milestone doesn't feel as important anymore. Starting fresh doesn't always have to mean adding something new.

The point is to give yourself permission to start again.

So as we head into fall, think about what that could look like for you. Maybe it's running your first mile, learning a new sport, getting outside once a week, returning to something you used to love, or simply making more time for yourself.

And if your fresh start involves trying something new, we've got a few ways to get started.
