The January Flow - Mechi Newsletter

Hello Mechi Community!

January always comes in with a lot of noise.

There’s pressure to be refreshed, motivated, and ready to take on the year—but if I’m being honest, that’s rarely how it actually feels. The holidays end, work ramps up fast, routines snap back into place, and suddenly it’s full-speed ahead. If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your body or your work right now, you’re not alone—and there’s nothing wrong with you.

I’ve learned that burnout doesn’t always look like total exhaustion. Sometimes it shows up as brain fog, low energy, irritability, or that feeling of being “on” all day without a real break. And while January is often framed as a fresh start, a time to kick off our resolutions (should we have some), I’ve come to believe it’s also a moment to slow down and ask: What do I actually need to feel supported right now?

For me, that answer has been surprisingly simple—and it’s soccer.

Why Soccer Has Been My Answer to Burnout

When work feels heavy or my mind won’t shut off, soccer is the one place where everything else goes quiet.

When I’m on the field, I’m fully present. I’m thinking about the ball, my teammates, where to move next - not emails, pitch decks, deadlines, or to-do lists. It gives my brain a break in a way few other things do.

Soccer also brings something I didn’t realize I was missing during burnout: play. Not movement for optimization or self-improvement - just movement for joy. Laughing, making mistakes, learning, and showing up exactly as I am that day.

And maybe most importantly, it’s the community. Showing up week after week with the same people creates connection without pressure. You don’t have to explain your stress or perform your best- you just show up, move together, and that’s enough.

That combination: presence, play, and people, is what keeps bringing me back, especially during seasons when work and life feels overwhelming.

If any part of that resonates, I really encourage you to try one of our weekly soccer sessions.

Women’s Soccer Training Sessions: Beginner-friendly, welcoming, and focused on building confidence and connection—not perfection. Sessions run every Monday and Friday, and you don’t need prior experience to join.

Indoor Futsal: Fast, fun, and a great way to get out of your head after a long workday.

Winter Soccer League : A consistent weekly rhythm that creates community, movement, and a reason to log off and step away from work.

You don’t have to be “in shape,” good at soccer, or even sure you’ll love it. Just showing up is enough.

And if soccer isn’t your thing, that’s okay too - Mechi is about helping you find your version of movement and community. What’s the hobby or movement practice that helps you feel grounded—and how can Mechi help you build it into your life this year?

If you’re not sure where to start, the Mechi app makes it easy to find local partners, upcoming sessions, and people who want to move at your pace. Burnout feels lighter when you’re not carrying it alone.

Here’s to a January that’s slower, kinder, and a little more playful than we’re usually told it should be.
